ABSTRACT

Michelene Wandor is a playwright, poet and critic. Her plays include The Wandering Jew (National Theatre 1987), as well as ‘alternative’ work with early women’s theatre groups including Gay Sweatshop, Women’s Theatre Group and Monstrous Regiment. For Sweatshop, Wandor scripted the landmark play Care and Control (1977). Her work for radio includes dramatizations of The Brothers Karamazov, Jane Eyre and The Jungle Book; and her adaptation of The Belle of Amhurst for Thames TV won an international Emmy Award. Her books on theatre and sexual politics include Carry On, Understudies and Look Back in Gender (Routledge).
