ABSTRACT

Sue Parrish trained as an actress at Guildhall, taught and then worked at the Cockpit Theatre TIE before returning to university, later moving into professional theatre as a director. She won an Arts Council Bursary to assist at the Half Moon Theatre (now defunct), and then became a freelance director in repertory, community and fringe theatres. Since 1979 she has been active in many arts organizations, including a long reign as Director of the Conference of Women Theatre Directors and Administrators. She served on the founding board of directors for the Women’s Playhouse Trust, and left WPT in 1987. She was appointed Artistic Director of the Women’s Theatre Group in 1990, just as the company was changing its name to its current title: The Sphinx.
