ABSTRACT

A. Grandparents and the Aged

As part of a documentary on the decade ahead, a crew from a television station recently interviewed a friend of ours, still in her forties, who has raised six children, written or contributed to many books, has been a syndicated newspaper columnist, and now teaches social psychology to graduate students. She was asked to assess the future of the family in the decade ahead and to describe her personal aspirations. "I hope to become a grandmother," she said. That was the only one of her observations that did not appear in the subsequent television program.
