(Next item: Prince Charles reveals a nautical sense of humour) 2. 11 February 1975 17.50 Item 8(Previous item: Miners’ pay)RAIL Black A 24-hour rail strike which would disrupt services in the London area and other parts of the country may still go ahead on Thursday, although the executive of the National Union of Railwaymen have accepted a new pay deal for signalmen.The union say the new offer will give pay rises of up to £5.35 a week to more than 2,000 of Britain’s 8,000 signalmen.But a member of the signalmen’s committee, Mr David Theedon, claims that only 500 signalmen will get more than £3 a week from the latest offer.Mr Theedon says his committee have appealed to the Prime Minister and the Secretary for Employment Mr Foot, that their case should go to arbitration. If an assurance on this is given, he said, the men will stop their threatened strike action.
