“My relatives immigrated with nothing and worked their way up. Why couldn’t Blacks do the same?” How does the timing of the waves of European immigration correspond to the growth in blue collar industrial jobs and opportunities to own land? What is the different about the experience of African Americans in the migration north during times of globalization and rapid economic change?
