ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter begins by reviewing the main ideas and core findings of this study. Next, the chapter addresses the issue of whether successful state reconstitution was durable in the two main cases examined. The chapter then presents general considerations on the roles of structure and agency in the process of state reconstitution. The chapter continues by summarizing the study’s theoretical framework and its applicability to the five cases investigated and suggesting potential modifications to the framework. The chapter concludes with suggestions for what this study’s findings mean for state collapse and reconstitution today, including in cases involving externally led reunification campaigns.
