ABSTRACT

The concept of interest is arguably central to a resocialisation of property discourse, ushering in the relationality that has been somewhat obscured in a predatory model. This relationality is what animates the concept of shared interests being developed in that the focus of attention is the bond rather than the behaviour offered in that relationship, rather than the object, as it were. A fuller relationship of the triadic nature and the fundamental relations between two beings is crucial. The central principle is the relationship; the behaviour is, quite literally, incidental and spontaneous. Reciprocal altruism is arguably also the potential for an ethical relationship, not only in property but also through a kind of reciprocal possession more generally; a moralistic exchange, engendering positive emotions which in turn are said to motivate repeated altruistic behaviour. Reciprocal altruism is thus a complex relationship of shared interests, communicated and imitated through empathetic behaviour and attunement to the other.
