ABSTRACT

Communication with other people inherently involves ethics. The pressure of real life, however, can intrude upon and cause us to question our values. People thus need informed and reasoned approaches for dealing with questions and actions involving communicating ethically. The chapter considers areas for further development in the study of communication ethics, such as health, religious, environmental, and educational communication. The chapter includes suggestions for developing one’s own personal code of communication ethics. The Credo of the National Communication Association and sources for other communication codes of ethics are also provided.
