ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter discusses the overall background, objective, and analytical framework of this book. This chapter further details the methodology and provides an outline of the study area. It sides with Connell in laying out the analytical framework of this book, acknowledging that the global North maintains hegemony in the production of knowledge in social sciences. It argues that feminist theories on sex work which are generally formulated in the global North need to be more inclusive of the experiences of sex workers from the global South. Such an approach will allow knowledge production on sex work to move beyond a North-centric approach and thereby add diversity to global sex work.
