ABSTRACT

Batteries utilise a chemical reaction in order to generate their electricity. The earth connection present at the power sockets is a local connection into the ground. Its job is to provide a low resistance path for electricity to follow in the case of a fault in the equipment or wiring resulting in the live signal finding its way onto the chassis of the equipment. The incoming mains power supply cable is routed through the electricity meter and then into the main breaker board or fuse box. The phase tester or line tester is another useful tool for performing basic tests on mains wiring. A phase tester provides a quick and easy method to test for the presence of a live mains power connection. The standard electricity supply across the globe which shows up at the live connection of a power socket is a sine wave.
