ABSTRACT
In the autumn of 1909 Magnus and Guorun moved to Skalavik, where Magnus was to teach. Prior to that they had lived temporarily at three placed in Hnifsdalur after leaving Isafjorour in the spring of 1908, and they had lived for a time in Bolungarvík. In Skalavik the family lived in appalling conditions, and their newborn baby died on 28 October, apparently due to the cold and want. In the autumn of 1910, after an evening of drinking, Magnus made sexual advances the following morning to a girl who was only 14 years old. Magnus had arrived at the home of friends in Bolungarvík, chilled and exhausted, on the evening of 27 October 1910. Due to the rape case, the family was constantly moving around in search of a place to stay, until the middle of 1911. Their poverty was worse than ever, and they were absolutely helpless.
