ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses that Magnus had been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the lower court. He appears to have been determined from the start to appeal the verdict; he found fault with everything the sheriff had done. The High Court verdict goes on to discuss the circumstances of the case, including various matters glossed over or minimized by Magnus in his diary: It is proven by the confession of the accused, which is consistent with other statements in the case, that the accused, who has attained the age of criminal responsibility and has never before been punished for any breach of the law, has committed the offenses. In the winter of 1909-1910 the accused was a teacher of children in Skalavik in the Holl district of the county of Isafjorour, at the elementary school there.
