Chapter 2 focuses on ethical approaches to deification. It outlines the thinking of Origen, Evagrius of Ponticus and the wider Desert tradition. It also explores whether ethical approaches can be said to have found a home in the Latin West prior to the later Middle Ages. It focuses particularly on the influential writings of John Cassian.
