ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses Tearfund’s 50-year journey as it emerged in the 1960s as a new kind of missionary organisation, transformed itself into a major development non-governmental organization in the 1990s and begins to re-orient itself as a faith-based organisation from the mid-2000s onwards. It shows many of the questions and assumptions of the literature have little to do with the reality of actual faith-based development organisations. The book explores the theoretical issues raised in the introduction and considers what the detailed case study of one Faith-Based Development Organizations (FBDO) contributes to these broader scholarly discussions. Taking an in-depth look at one FBDO and its evolution over a 50-year period has enabled a number of paradoxes of faith-based development to come clearly into focus.
