ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 explored the construction of the nomad figure within two separate but complementary imaginaries. It discussed the connection between place and self via the relations between the nomad figure and nomad space. Chapters 3 and 4 discuss these imaginaries in depth. Chapter 3 focuses on how the nomad figure is constructed as the imagined Other and perpetuated in orientalist discourses. To do so, the chapter explores various mediating outlets through which the nomad figure is constructed and reified.
