This chapter introduces the reader to the range of response and intervention options that are used for threat and violence assessment and management cases and discusses both what they can do and the problems that need to be considered before they are activated. The focus in this chapter is understanding the critical difference between trying to influence the person of concern versus trying to persuade them, and how it is only influence that will lead to the possibility of a long-lasting result. In addition, there is a discussion of the importance of case monitoring after the first assessment and intervention cycle, as this is where the process often breaks down and safety becomes compromised.
