ABSTRACT

The idea of becoming adaptive is appealing to everyone. It represents a practical aspect of being a cultural chameleon in CQ. Sustainable or adaptive leadership is what makes leaders or managers live in cultural dynamicity and change their mindset or culture depending on internal or external stimuli. In this chapter, we build on the core concepts detailed earlier in the book and craft a new model or construct of Adaptive and Sustainable Leadership. We call here for a new paradigm in approaching and practicing leadership. A detailed articulation for the link between CQ’s dimensions and sub-dimensions, and DCF’s five cultures. Within this integration process, we take pride of the link between metacognitive dimension of CQ and DCF’s fifth culture, hermit. This link provides contribution to CQ where metacognitive operations or processes usually are not where or how they happen. Hermit, which is a non-action mindset or culture, provides the host for metacognitive processes to take place. Changing the world starts here in the neutral zone where all plans are plotted. The model developed confirms the dynamic aspect of culture and shows that cultural hybridity is one important behaviour for leaders to adopt.
