ABSTRACT

The speed of human evolution requires a collective sense of the direction of travel. The best plan for regulation and politics is one based on realistic and proven technological innovation. The direction of travel for the majority, then, must begin by finding some simple common targets that almost everyone can agree on and set as priorities. The transition of the human species from being a plague on this earth to its only viable future as a planetary caretaker has to become our shared ambition. If the motivation is an ethical one, the most important way forward is largely a technical one, with politicians working with architects, engineers and scientists to understand the relationship between what is possible and what is not. ZEDlife initiative, by contrast, tries to show that real solutions are close at hand and can be implemented immediately, and all that is required is industrial collaboration and joined-up thinking.
