ABSTRACT

The main contract used for construction in past years has been the JCT Standard Building Contract, with the most recent version, the 2011 suite, taking account of changes to the housing grants, construction and Regeneration Act 1996. This contract is still readily available and the Clerk of Works is still named within it. The NEC supervisor ensures that the contractor compiles with the works information. The quality and quantity of the works information can determine the overall outcome of the project. The Clerk of Works should confirm with the architect whether or not clause 3.18 is to operate regarding the acceptance of work or materials not in accordance with the contract. It is the duty of the Clerk of Works/NEC supervisor to keep a daily diary, recording such items as: temperatures, rain, snow and high winds, with particular reference to ‘exceptionally adverse weather’records of tests carried out any delays that are evident, and the reasons for them.
