ABSTRACT

Making good ethical decisions requires a considered approach, weighing the options that impact on our course of action. Only by careful exploration of an issue or dilemma, aided by the insights and diverse perspective of others, can we make good ethical choices. The CWCI Professional and Ethical Standards mandates member Clerks of Works to act solely in terms of the public interest in furtherance of their profession, and not to gain material, financial or other unfair advantage for themselves or their connections. Members should not place themselves in any invidious position that may be perceived as compromising their integrity or their ability to act objectively. Members should recognise and value the responsibility they have to the community, and undertake their duties with appropriate ability, integrity and vigilance. The thought process below can easily be remembered by the acronym REEMA Recognise, Establish, Evaluate, Make (a decision), Act.
