ABSTRACT

Unless specified, the prior approval of the architect/employer's agent (A/EA) must be obtained when it is necessary to remove bricks, stones or other materials bearing benchmarks. An early site meeting with the contractor should be arranged to ensure that all items or services to be preserved or protected in accordance with specification are correctly identified, marked and protected. Typically these might include the following: utility services, access, buildings and features, and trees, grass and plants. In the event of the discovery of asbestos material it is the responsibility of the contractor to stop work and draw the matter to the attention of the A/EA and the health and safety coordinator. All temporary works and falsework should be designed and verified by the contractor. The chapter also provides a checklist of items requiring action by the A/EA if specified, for which any delegation to the Clerk of Works in part or whole should be established,.
