95This chapter looks at the importance of consolidating what can be learned from the past while contemplating the future. It highlights the importance of research, working with end users and learning from built projects, while considering how our lives are continually changing as a result of demographic change, global pressures and the digital revolution.
Technology has already changed the way we communicate and is becoming much more prevalent within the home. Product design has become extremely sophisticated and even everyday household items are becoming smarter and more multifunctional. While some of this may seem peripheral to the subject of age-friendly housing, much of it will impact on how we live, how our homes are designed, and how our health is monitored and our care delivered.
