ABSTRACT

Transportation has a strong influence on the spatial structure at the local, regional and global levels. The relationships transportation networks establish with space are related to their continuity, their topographic space and the spatial cohesion they establish. Geography imposes an organization to activities and consequently a spatial structure. Inversely, the spatial structure influences geography. Transportation not only favors economic development but also has an impact on the spatial organization. There is a hierarchy in the spatial organization of transportation at the local, regional and global levels, mainly through its nodes, links and relations. Although transport is an important element in rural spatial organization, it is at the urban level that transportation has the most significant local spatial impact. The diffusion of information and telecommunication technologies (ICT) resulted in several economic and social impacts. In addition to substitution and mobility issues, ICT has an impact on the location and the operations of economic activities..
