ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 considers issues related to water scarcity and water security, including uneven distribution, aquifer depletion, effects on ecosystems, and effects on human health. The concept of virtual water is introduced. Strategies to increase water security are discussed, including commercial and residential water conservation, groundwater banking, desalination, rainwater harvesting, graywater reuse, and the concept of net zero water.
