ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the various specialists that a surveyor may consult or recommend to undertake further investigation will obviously use more specialised equipment. The guidance note on the more recently introduced Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors version of the building survey makes reference to much of the equipment, in addition, refers to an inclinometer and adjustable set square , thermal imaging camera, a marble and a magnifying glass. The lists of equipment provided include tools that specialists will mainly use, such as a thermal imaging camera, borescope and metal detector. Thermography equipment measures and records minute variations in the infrared (IR) radiation which is emitted by all structures. IR cameras are easy to use, with assessment mainly carried out from ground level. Images can be stored on a computer and are in colour, with the camera calibrated to show variations in emissions.
