ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the psychological dimensions of climate engagement through the lens of worldviews, myths and consciousness change. It begins with the author’s story of her own deepening engagement with climate crisis, accompanied by a series of dreams. This then leads into a discussion, grounded in depth psychological theory, about the framing narratives of cultural myths and developmental processes that support psychological maturity in individuals and societies. This discussion emphasises the importance of calling upon intuitive, experiential and embodied forms of knowing to support consciousness change and cultural action in response to climate crisis. Key to this consciousness change is the development of ecosystemic understandings and collective forms of learning and social change.
