ABSTRACT
Springhill is David Michael’s first scheme as a developer. The co-housing approach offers people the chance to be their own developers, but with the benefits of group finance and a ready-made community. Community is not so easy to find in our busy lives today. Co-housing offers an alternative to paid childcare, old people’s homes and multiple appliances. Stroud is green and hilly, situated on the edge of the Cotswolds. The Springhill development itself sits on a hill looking out over Stroud. The community is a sustainable one, due to the co-housing ethos. It felt similar to being in a village. Everyone shares cooking, childcare, gardening and administration. The construction is renewable and uses recycled materials. The community is a healthy and sustainable one, with people of all ages living at Springhill and a waiting list to live there.
