ABSTRACT

The chapter examines female fans’ participation in social practices on match day (the ways they support their clubs during the games) and beyond match day related, for example, to charity activities. The analysis of the data from the survey and interviews suggests that a large percentage of female fans provide active support during the matches that has also been confirmed during the interviews. They are also engaged in beyond match activities; however, as the qualitative data reveal, they do not play leading roles in their organisation. A separate part of the chapter is devoted to linguistic practices in the stadiums. The results show that female fans do not participate in all forms of linguistic performances imposed by the ultras fans, which is motivated mainly by an unwillingness to insult others. However, contrary to the assumptions, female fans do not perceive stadium language as sexist.
