ABSTRACT

The chapter describes a methodological approach to the complex and large-scale empirical research which results are presented in the following sections. First, it provides a rationale for the selection of three metropolitan clubs (Legia Warszawa, Lechia Gdańsk and Lech Poznań) as the prime focus of the studies. Furthermore, it presents in detail the main research methods that have been used, that is, online survey and individual semi-structured, in-depth interviews conducted with football fans (both female and male) and the Polish football clubs and league representatives. In the last part, the complementary methods that have been used, such as the analysis of the fans’ narratives and the official shops’ merchandising, are presented.
