ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the Goldberg Power Pumps company, where the original headquarters and manufacturing plant in Guilderville, New York. It explains role of Denise who worked in Goldberg Power Pumps. To Denise, the role had seemed like the perfect starting point for a management career: a technology-driven, family-owned, slightly old-fashioned, business. They had asked her to start in the trenches running one department with the promise of rapid promotion if she succeeded there. The chapter presents an email from Fred Goldberg, the owner and chairman of the board of Goldberg Power Pumps, to the managers. In the email, he conveyed that Harold Rosen will retire as CEO of Goldberg Power Pumps for personal reasons effective immediately. He announces that Alexander Aspen, who has been a highly successful executive in the technology and automotive sector and a member of the board over the last 12 months, will take over the role as CEO starting May 1st.
