ABSTRACT

This chapter describes Denise's notes describing her important goal. Denise launched into a detailed explanation of her revelation about changeover time and how it could be an easy first step to reduce their backlog and support their future-state value stream. Changeover time could be that wildly important goal that would get them focused, at least as a first step, she argued. Denise explained how she had reviewed the six A3s with Joe and Mark and kept only the two focused on changeover. She knew about Learning to See, Rother's book introducing value-stream mapping. He had also published another book called the Toyota Kata Practice Guide, which went into detail about how to practice Toyota Kata. Rother wanted people to practice thinking more scientifically until it became a habit. Denise then sketched the Improvement Kata into her notebook. She liked the four-step model.
