ABSTRACT

WHAT A LONG day of work, Denise thought. She parked her car at the fitness studio, grabbed her duffel bag, and made her way to the changing room. She had met with Joe and Mark twice today to discuss the target conditions they were working on this week. It seemed that after an initial burst of energy early in the week, they had stalled. They had successfully reduced the waste of finding stuff and did all that preparation while the line was still producing, and now were on to the second target condition for their assigned workstations on line 3. Mark's next target condition focused on reducing the time to align the fixtures during changeover on the end-of-line test station. Joe took on a quality issue that had long plagued work at his assigned station. After the changeover, there were increased quality problems to fix before the line could start up again. Neither was getting traction, and they seemed to be avoiding working on their assignments.
