ABSTRACT

The amount of information completed will depend on the complexity, size and nature of the project, but the stage information and briefing document should endeavour to communicate all the strategic design principles. As the design approach narrows toward a single option, the project team can progress a number of strategies to inform the developing design. Programming, procurement and the submission of a planning application are all project activities that can be difficult to set out definitively at the outset of the design process. As the design is fully developed before tender, the client has greater certainty with regard to design quality and cost. Developing information in collaboration with the full project team can facilitate a more integrated design and construction process, especially with the earlier input of specialist subcontractors and suppliers. The Design Responsibility Matrix will be generated in Stage to inform the scope and composition of the design team.
