ABSTRACT

Construction is concerned solely with the completion of the project, both on and off site. The completed design may be the starting point for the Construction stage; however, some procurement routes and Project Programmes require elements of the design to overlap with construction. The Project Programme will help identify whether the scope of the design will extend into the Construction stage. The Information Exchange required at the end of the Construction stage comprises: the ‘As-constructed’ Information. Programme and cost pressures throughout the Construction stage can compress the time allowed to resolve site issues and Design Queries. Likewise changing the construction of an external wall to suit, say, sequencing and costs, would appear a simple amendment to review. The production of ‘As-constructed’ Information is frequently left until the later stages of the build and is often compromised by a compressed Construction Programme. The client requires ‘As-constructed’ Information to be prepared either during the construction process or when the construction is complete.
