ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the importance of the ‘kick-starting’ process and the means of selecting the initial members of the project team. This process is crucial as these initial parties will be responsible for assembling the collaborative project team and ensuring that the best possible brief is put in place. The practice approach can be harnessed by an architectural practice, an experienced client or a project manager undertaking the project lead role and the tools in the publication can be used by any party. The project approach is more appropriate for larger or complex projects that might benefit from a stringent review of the client’s requirements and a more thorough assessment of the type of project team that is required. Depending on the experience of the client and the nature and complexity of a project, a practice or project approach, or a mixture of both, may be appropriate.
