ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the issues associated with the important task and the tools that assist those responsible for making the decisions. Every project, whether large or small, requires a number of roles to be undertaken. On smaller projects, roles are typically combined, with the architect carrying out the project lead, lead designer and architect roles. With the decision regarding a traditional or contractor-led project team made and the timing of the contractor’s involvement agreed, the assembly of the project team can be considered in greater detail. The advantages of early contractor involvement will depend on the complexity of a project, the nature of the site and the extent to which specialist subcontractors might add value to a project. The Project Roles Table has been developed to allow the party responsible for developing the project team with the client to allocate each project role to a specific party for each stage.
