ABSTRACT

The funding provided by the Technology Strategy Board has enabled design teams and their clients, working with climate experts and academics, to consider the implications of a changing climate on live projects in far more depth than would usually be possible in the cut and thrust of project work. In many cases consideration of climate change has become an integral part of their design service, and they have begun raising the issues with their clients as a matter of course. Teams had greater difficulty in taking climate change into account for other aspects of construction, including roof drainage, structural design, and materials and detailing standards. The combined experience of the teams involved in the Design for Future Climate projects is a rich resource on which to draw to develop necessary consensus, based on practical and detailed investigation of the issues.
