ABSTRACT
The premises a business operates from is a visible and tangible representation to clients and employees of what the business is and what it stands for. It can be used as a showcase for the work of the practice and be an example to potential clients of the care and attention to detail given. This chapter examines various aspects of running an office, from choice of premises to health and safety regulations. It discusses how to manage premises efficiently and sustainably, and gives information about the various types of insurance available. It is increasingly important to be able to demonstrate that the office a business works from has a minimum impact on the environment and that the business and its operations are ethical. The chapter outlines ten steps to build a sustainable practice including demonstrating practice performance and building on existing resources.
