ABSTRACT

This chapter explores methods for teaching BPE and the training opportunities provided in the UK and describes the personal attributes and skills that a practitioner needs to undertake housing BPE studies. One of the best ways for professional practitioners to learn about BPE, therefore, is through knowledge exchange between different communities of practice. Housing developers could also benefit from the same type of education in BPE as design professionals, using communities of practices and KE across the sector. BPE also provides an excellent opportunity for developing inhabitants' routine engagement with the performance of their homes. Housing BPE can be undertaken by anyone who has a good understanding of the design and build process, the right attitude and relevant training. A housing feedback practitioner is an 'honest broker' who tells the truth about housing performance, tactfully and palatably, while recognising the limits of the situation they are working in, and the relative nature of that truth.
