ABSTRACT
Whether or not changes in mode of composition (or even the causes of the changes in mode) should be expected to change authors’ styles seems debatable, but such questions can be answered only by analysis. Before the cases of the eleven authors included in this study can be investigated, however, the nature of literary style and the elements that constitute it are briefly discussed, as is the manifest fact that stylistic changes sometimes do occur, either intentionally or not, in an author’s oeuvre. The differences among the various modes of composition and their natures and characteristics are also addressed.
