At day-break the party were assembled on horseback in the stable yard, all but Ethelinde, who in a few moments joined them, and was assisted by the grooms to mount the horse provided for her; for Davenant still remained at an haughty distance; and Woolaston, who had now time to arrange and digest his plan, kept close to Miss Newenden, and affected to take no notice of any other person.
