ABSTRACT

Sir audley had watched Althea’s manners towards his friend, and was at no loss to understand what they meant; but he was so sure she had no other attachment, that he could not help flattering himself the prospects of splendour and affluence which Mohun could offer her, would have their weight; and accordingly prepared to exert all the power of parental authority to conquer any scruples that his daughter might have, and to hasten the conclusion of the marriage before they returned to London for the winter.
