ABSTRACT

An hour after the close of day I received a summons to attend Lady Aubrey in her dressing-room. I flew almost with the swift ness of thought, and in a moment presented myself before her. Mr. Hanbury was already there, and his countenance bore marks of profound and mournful impressions. My aunt drew her chair towards the table, which was covered with a number of writings; she made a signal for me to take my seat, and Mr. Hanbury, with emphatic solemnity, began to read the last will of the deceased Sir Edward Aubrey. I shall not trouble you, Rosanna, with the tedious forms and repetitions of the law; but merely give you a brief abstract of this important paper.
