ABSTRACT

I CONTINUED to walk hastily along the highway till day-break, when a heavy shower made me take shelter under a clump of firs, which covered a small eminence by the road side. The tops of the mountains which screened Glenowen met my eyes; the light vapours floated over them, and their dark verdure served to contrast the bright blue sky, which the tepid shower had left unclouded. Every leaf was spangled with drops of rain, and the freshness of the morning air passing over the meadows, revived my senses, almost annihilated by the anguish of reflection.
