Mr. Morley rose early, and summoned Mrs. Grimwood to the breakfast-room. ‘Grimwood,’ said he, ‘you have been a faithful servant in the family during many years. You have always proved yourself diligent and honest. I have no reason to suppose that you would utter a falsehood – and I therefore question you with confidence.
