ABSTRACT

First published Edinburgh Saturday Post, 17 November 1827, p. 220. Reprinted Tave pp. 185–7 (with attribution, p. 188). This leader is one of many on the battle of Navarino, and other skirmishes and warfare in the eastern Mediterranean, and the resulting confusion in the London press. Its combination of ‘contemporaries’ (where most of the Post contributors would write ‘cotemporaries’) and a quotation from Coleridge’s Christabel, establish De Qiiincey’s presence beyond reasonable doubt.
