The manuscript is in the Berg Collection of the New York Public Library as ‘Moral and Practical’ (accession number 216895B) f. 15. Single sheet written on both sides variously in black, blue-black and violet ink. It is not clear how far the blocks of text squeezed into various parts of this manuscript are connected, though a recurrent concern with ethics and the condition of servants links several. De Quincey’s assessment of his recent contributions to Blackwood’s is dated 21 July 1841; how closely this applies to other material on the sheet is unknown.
