ABSTRACT

The manuscript is in the Bodleian Library, Oxford as MS Eng. Lett. c. 461 f. 119, a small fragment of paper written on both sides in the hand of A. H. Japp. The verso carries draft material by Japp concerning H. S. Salt and American magazines. The recto, given here, has what appears to be a transcript of text by De Quincey. If authentic, the material probably originated as draft text for De Quincey’s 1850 essay ‘Professor Wilson’ (see Vol. 17, pp. 33–42, 241–5).
