Who would not have believed, after so long a period of constancy and perseverance in the right path, that the follies of Angelo were for ever at an end? Far otherwise; the errors of the libertine are too frequently so imbued with the character, as to be invincible to the operation of time, experience, conscience, or reason, and to end but with the life of the wretched being they tyrannize over.
