ABSTRACT

HAVING so far compassed his purpose in gaining the acquiescence of the gentle Agnes, Angelo, unnecessarily apprehensive that she might retract, or desire at least to do so, hastened every necessary measure, and shortly established her in the convent della Trinita delle Monache, one of the most splendid receptacles in all Italy for the daughters of the nobility, and accounted one of the richest in its ornaments, and pictures. But to remain in Italy during the whole year of her noviciate, was a circumstance which would materially derange the plans of Angelo, who was now desirous of quitting it as early as possible.
